Memory
I just spent 1 week trying to remember the name of an old flatmate who left me in the lurch owing a few months rent bills etc (thats right Julian I did remember it eventually you schmuck). It was driving me crazy, how could I forget his name?
The weird thing is I rember the car he drove, WTF? Its not like I am a car nut or anything it is just that I find very easy to recall what cars people drove 10,20 even 30 years ago, even if I can remember much else about them.
I can remember songs after 1-2 listens yet I still forget the names of people I worked with 5 years ago?
Maybe I have selective brain damage from the decade I spent playing Doom , Quake,Civilisation 2 and 3, Warcraft and Starcraft.
Hmm thats another blog, how much time I wasted reading pulp science fiction/video games when I could have been studying philosphy and reading classics of modern literature.

Post Christmas
Well back at work after a relatively uneventfull week doing the family shuffle, the girls ended up being very confused about christmas as the opened presents on Christmas Eve (Polish Tradition) then with my parents on Christmas and then with cousins on the 27th they now think Chtistmas is over a week. I ended up having a little too much temparanillo on Christmas, not to good for hangovers. Had some interesting cultural observations on Christmas from Polish and German perspectives. The European Christmas is more about food then presents, and in scaring the crap out of little kids to make sure they are good

Coming back to work it is amazing how many stories I am hearing of family tensions at Christmas.
Its so ironic that getting the family together to celebrate the spirit of Christmas is when most family fights and feuds happen. There is a Polish proverb that Christmas guests are like freshly caught fish, great the first day, a bit smelly the 2nd day and by the 3rd day no longer welcome.
